Clinical Bacteriology Survey results and educational component termed critiques are sent out quarterly. As listed in the links shown below, critiques are sorted in a variety of ways. Critiques are posted in pdf format.

Each Clinical Bacteriology Program critique notes: survey date, number, and title  and references   See pdf sample Adobe reader is required.

Maximum achievable grades assigned to the challenge as well as grades (and percentages) received by each laboratory category are noted in the Grading Summary box including any pertinent highlights or challenge intent.

Also included in the critiques:

  • Quality assurance at CMPT (as applicable)
  • Reference laboratory results
  • All participant laboratory results received and grades assigned
  • Discussion regarding organism identification
  • Summaries of the results submitted presented in table format
  • Clinical significance
  • most Gram stain challenges include a photograph of the smear.
  • Antimicrobial susceptibility testing
  • Urine challenges include colony count results.

  Paper Challenges test the early or pre-analytical phase of laboratory testing and post-analytical reporting errors. The paper challenge consists of a simulated 'clinical scenario' associated with a number of alternative choices for response. There are two paper challenges per survey year.
