Michael Noble, CMPT Managing Director
Managing Director: Michael Noble M.D. FRCPC

Dr. Noble is the Managing Director of the Clinical Microbiology Proficiency Testing (CMPT) program, which is the only medical laboratory proficiency testing program in North America to have been successfully registered to ISO 9000:2000 for its quality management system. He also chairs the Quality Committee for the Division of Medical Microbiology and Infection Control, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Vancouver Hospital, Vancouver, British Columbia. He not only “talks the talk” of aboratory quality, but also “walks the walk.” Please see Publications and Presentations.

Dr. Noble’s academic education includes Medicine, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Medical Microbiology and he is a sea-to-sea Canadian, having lived in Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia. Practicing his craft since 1972, Dr. Noble has not only been involved in direct laboratory management but also has chaired committees and programs related to Laboratory Quality Management at The University of British Columbia, the Standards Council of Canada, and the Canadian Standards Association National Committee for Medical Laboratory Quality Systems. On the international stage, in 2005 he became involved in a joint project with CLSI and the CDC. Please see Awards


Esther Kwok, CMPT Coordinator Coordinator: Esther Kwok R.T., BSc, C.LQM

Esther Kwok joined CMPT as our coordinator in April 2004. She has had many years experience as a medical technologist in clinical laboratories working at UBC Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital and Lion’s Gate Hospital. In 2001 –2002 Esther worked part-time for CMPT as our Project Technologist researching the transport of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Esther has also worked in the business community and understands the fiscal and public relations that are critical to the CMPT program. Esther completed the Certificate course in Laboratory Quality Management.

Esther has guided CMPT through successful recertification audits for ISO 9001:2000.

Caleb Lee, CMPT Senior Technologist Senior technologist: Caleb Lee M.H.A, BMLSc, C.LQM

Caleb Lee joined CMPT in 1996 and is now responsible for the protocol writing for the CMPT samples experiments (experiment design) for the microbiology, mycology and water programs. He actively participates in quality control for the laboratory operation. In addition, he is kept extremely busy as the main laboratorian educator for our international training program.

In 2005, Caleb successfully completed the UBC Certificate course in Laboratory Quality Management and in 2007 finished a Master degree program of Health Administration.

Veronica Restelli is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received her BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires and did her residency in Clinical Microbiology at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Buenos Aires.

She had worked as a Microbiologist in different laboratories, private clinics and public Hospitals in Argentina and moved to Winnipeg in 1999, where she received her MSc in Biotechnology. In 2002 she moved to Vancouver to work as a Research Associate for Twinstrand Therapeutics and remained with them for six years.

Veronica has extensive experience in technical writing. She says Clinical Microbiology has always been her passion and is thrilled to be involved with it again at CMPT.


Suhanya - CMPT Web Manager/Technologist

Web Manager & Technologist: Suhanya Bhuvanendran BMLSc

Suhanya Bhuvanendran graduated from the Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLSc) in 2007 and started full time with CMPT in May 2007. She has taken additional water bacteriology laboratory training through BC Centre for Disease Control, Vancouver BC and Norwest Laboratories, Surrey BC. Recently she took HTML Authoring and Dreamweaver courses at UBC and is now CMPT's Web Manager.
